Kevin and I have had to make the uncomfortable decision to place his mom back in a nursing home. We have tried for the last year and a half to provide a loving home for her to live, but it has come to the point where we need to place her back in a place where we were trying to get her out of in the first place. Life's funny that way. We thought by taking her out of a nursing home that it would make her so happy. We didn't want to see her spend the rest of her life there...she's only 61. But only someone can choose for themselves to be happy...no matter what another person does it's up to them to choose it. And now there are medical issues coming back up (just when we were hoping she was out of the woods), so it's best that she be in a place where she can get the care and the attention she needs. So now we are dealing with the wonderful reality of what to do next... It would be so easy if there was someone who could tell us everything we could do and then they could make all the arrangements and get everything done for us...but unfortunately life doesn't work like that. Kevin's mom wants to go back to California. So here's what we have to do...
1) Get a referral from a doctor IN CA so she can be placed in a nursing home
2) Get her back on Medi-Cal (which we have to do once she's IN CA)
3) Get her moved into a nursing home
Doesn't sound complicated huh? But then the logistics come in play: When do we go? What doctor is she going to see? How can we get the timing to work so that we don't have to take a ton of time off? Will we be able to get the time off that we need? Are we capable of getting this all done in a matter of days? How much will Kevin's sister want to be involved? "Just take one step at a time" I hear myself say. But where do you start? What's the next step? Let the fun begin!
