Joy in the Journey

Today I've been taking time to sit at my piano and play some songs. Sometimes I like to sing along with what I'm playing (I make sure the door is closed so NO ONE else can hear me). I pulled out an EFY song book. There's a song from the 1998 EFY that struck home to me. It's entitled "Joy in the Journey". Here are the lyrics:

We may not see the end from the beginning
We cannot comprehend all the Father has in store
We may not have the answers to the questions
Through the life that we've been given
He longs to teach us more
Every rock we stumble 'cross can be a stepping stone

There are precious hidden treasures scattered all along the road
There is joy in the journey
Joy in the climb
Twisting and turning
Reaching for the open sky
Carving out each footstep
In the struggling we find
There is hope and there is job
In the journey

We cannot know what's coming 'round the corner
Wemay not see the mountains and the valley up ahead
So every day we put our faith in heaven
And in the light of the morning we find strength to rise again
All of us are travelers searching for our home
In the learning we are not alone

There is joy in the journey
Joy in the climb
Twisting and turning
Reaching for the open sky
Carving out each footstep
In the struggling we find
There is hope
And there is peace
There is job in the journey

Right now this struck home to me because of what is going on in Kevin and my life. We're going through a lot right now. With Kevin being without work it brings life into perspective. We're having to make some tough decisions coming up. So it was nice to find this song and to realize that we need to have Joy in the Journey.

President Monson talked about this same subject at this last conference. His talk was also entitled "Joy in the Journey". Here are a couple of exerpts:

"This is our one and only chance at mortal life—here and now. The longer we live, the greater is our realization that it is brief. Opportunities come, and then they are gone. I believe that among the greatest lessons we are to learn in this short sojourn upon the earth are lessons that help us distinguish between what is important and what is not. I plead with you not to let those most important things pass you by as you plan for that illusive and non-existent future when you will have time to do all that you want to do. Instead, find joy in the journey—now."

"Stresses in our lives come regardless of our circumstances. We must deal with them the best we can. But we should not let them get in the way of what is most important—and what is most important almost always involves the people around us."

"Despite the changes which come into our lives and with gratitude in our hearts, may we fill our days—as much as we can—with those things which matter most. May we cherish those we hold dear and express our love to them in word and in deed."

Kevin and I might be going through a tough time right now, but we have been dwelling on the fact that we have each other - and that's the most important thing we have. Kevin and I have been very lucky in the fact that we have each other. We have something special. We are there for each other through everything. We are each other's support. Not a lot of people have what we have. I am thankful everyday that Heavenly Father lead me to this wonderful man. And I'm looking forward to having joy in the journey for eternity.

Quote of the Week

"We are often left to work out problems, without the dictation or specific direction of the Spirit. That is part of the experience we must have in mortality. Fortunately, we are never out of the Savior's sight, and if our judgement leads us to actions beyond the limits of what is permissible and if we are listening to the still small voice, the Lord will restrain us by the promptings of His Spirit." - Elder Dallin H. Oaks

"We don't have to be perfect today. We don't have to be better than someone else. All we have to do is to be the very best we can." - Elder Joseph B. Wirthlin
