Putting Life into Perspective
So today at work I was just plugging along. We heard some sirens but that's sort of an usual occurrence. Then we heard one of our bosses wanting to look from someone's window what was going on. I got up because I was curious. I looked out the window and saw a bunch of police cars and a couple of fire trucks right below us. I asked what happened. One of our coworkers had just been upstairs and heard that someone had jumped from the building across the street from us (some of the people on that floor had actually seen him fall)! I won't get into the gruesome details but it left us all in a funk. We were very somber. We were wondering what had led him to jump (we didn't know if he had committed suicide, if he fell, or if he was pushed, but the most likely was that he had committed suicice) and why he didn't think there was any other way to deal with what he was going through. It made all of us put into perspective the things that we are dealing with and to be thankful that we didn't have to be faced with that kind of decision. One of my co-workers (not LDS) made a comment; she said "The Lord won't give us trials that we can't handle." So keep that in mind the next time you are going through a trial and you can't see the light at the end of the tunnel!!
Quote of the Week
"We are often left to work out problems, without the dictation or specific direction of the Spirit. That is part of the experience we must have in mortality. Fortunately, we are never out of the Savior's sight, and if our judgement leads us to actions beyond the limits of what is permissible and if we are listening to the still small voice, the Lord will restrain us by the promptings of His Spirit." - Elder Dallin H. Oaks
"We don't have to be perfect today. We don't have to be better than someone else. All we have to do is to be the very best we can." - Elder Joseph B. Wirthlin
